Just a few days left to put yourself forwards for a Trustee position with - an independent charity that negotiates access to land, builds footpaths, helps care for the countryside and undertakes conservation projects in Perth and Kinross!

Want a really simple way to help bumblebees, butterflies, moths, hoverflies and other wildlife? The dandelions will be back soon. Don't mow them. Don't spray them. Just let them grow. Job done 🐝

Another 'first' for the year at Muir of Dinnet NNR - a rather grubby ladybird wandering around on the picnic table. Like Friday's peacock butterfly, this seems very early and is probably yet another sign of our warming climate.

We saw our first peacock butterfly of the year today, possibly our earliest ever at Muir of Dinnet NNR, in a sheltered, sunny spot in the Burn O'Vat. The weekend might not be quite so promising for butterflies, but get your waterproofs on - you never know what you might see! ☔

This little Saithe, or Pollock, was popped back into the cold sea unharmed by Pauline at St Cyrus NNR. We think they're known as poddley here in Angus/Aberdeenshire - does anyone know - or is that the similar looking coal fish?! 🤔

Swan Wars. Featuring: Mute Skywalker and Darth Whooper... The mute swans at Muir of Dinnet NNR are getting territorial now and really don't want anyone else on their patch...they really aren't happy about the migrating whoopers stopping off on their way north!

Beavers benefit nature, creating wetlands for other animals to thrive - but sometimes flooding occurs where it's not ideal. Here's our first flow control device of 2020 to help stop paths flooding. It sets a water level behind a dam that still allows beavers to use the site.

A fab day for a trip to St Cyrus NNR! ' Mark Stevens and our Operations Manager Gavin came from Aberdeen by train, then unfolded their bikes to pedal to the reserve! Reserve Manager Therese seemingly got her frozen sea mouse out!? We'll tweet when it's to be aired!

The birds are getting into full singing mode at Muir of Dinnet NNR... M more and more are singing, with at least 3 mistle thrushes singing their slightly melancholy song by Tuesday from the highest tree or power lines. Follow our blog for more news 😊

If you're stuck inside today, why not just sit back and enjoy these teal displaying and head bobbing... (or can they hear some great that we can't!?) in the fabulous Muir of Dinnet NNR...
