    The freezing season starts with a record low sea ice extent which is observed with SMOS. The spacecraft was launched on 2 November 2009 and its planned mission duration was only 3 years. Luckily the sensor carries on to document the unfortunately changing Arctic.

    Ice-sheet meltwater plume-like anomalies observed in salinity data. Greenland Fjord, Jan Mayen, Hopen Is. and Severny Is., Novaya Zemlya features are intriguing and the results certainly deserve attention, but with healthy due diligence , scientific scrutiny and validation.
