The fast game speed in sc2 kills mid game and allow you to jump to tier 3 units very fast, which is bad imo.

The idea of mid-game is mostly a mental construct that's a holdover from WoL and HotS, which collectively represent the minority of SC2's lifespan at this point. "Midgame" was simply the stage before the game became stagnant in most matchups.

Speed settings could be a good compromise, ranked ladder could either run at a higher speed by default or have two separate ladders. You would run the risk of splitting the community but the pool of players going for a lower speed would likely be higher due to accessibility.

As someone who started watching in WoL I find the increased pace to be detrimental to the viewing experience, too. I guess it lets you get more games in? But you need slow, calm moments to make the frantic ones really stand out. Not everything needs to be all action all the time.

I don't miss the first 6 minutes of casters struggling to figure out how to fill the silence while nothing interesting happened and players built workers.
