I'm not a labor economist - but should we be surprised? Does an employer care about the difference between workers saving and workers spending money? (In the absence of differential tax wedges)

The saving is usually a new condition bargained for. So there’s a question of whether the workers really won anything from the negotiation (lower profits) or whether they simply swapped lower wages for higher saving.

PJK seems to have it both ways tho. Claiming their brilliance working with Kelty kept a lid on wage inflation, but that further increases won’t come from wages.
