I think surrendering to the reality of integration. Though I appreciate the intent of the question, it sets an unrealistic expectation for many. Perhaps we should strive for a flow of integration, where you can be a peace with what's realistic. Then we manage the flow.

Such a great point Paul. I always try to remember that the work will be there tomorrow. And that the time with family and friends may be limited ❤️

I don't think there's a one size fits all solution for this. Personally, I take my laptops home at night but I try not to work unless I have to. I do check my emails if I receive them but don't respond unless it's an emergency.

If someone has the answer to this, I would be interested to hear. I haven't ever found the "magic switch" to just turn off my work mode and leave it all behind. Maybe I'm just not wired that way, but I don't think work/life is necessarily mutually exclusive.

Instead, replace the time at home with things of home, the time for fun with things of fun, etc. Discipline your mind and body to run after those things that bring refreshment. It will improve your work performance, too! [2 of 2]

It's a discipline which requires habit change. Most of the denial tactics ("I will not check email, I will not check email") leads to frustration and some bitterness due to "how much will be waiting for me if I don't get rid of those emails now." [1 of 2]

I rarely mentally check out b/c I'm always trying to think about how I've handled situations & what I need to do the next day. Emotionally, I try to spend about 20-30 minutes talking about crazy things that happened during the day to relieve the stress then I'm good.

Like many others, it's not a simple answer. For me, I live what I do so it doesn't just shut off. When part of what makes you successful is being "on" at the right times, you need to be aware of when to be "off" for those in your life & around you.

Head to the gym, running trail or Yoga studio immediately after work! Great transition.

Short answer: You can’t. Our lives are integrated with the responsibilities of work and our personal lives. Challenges in our personal lives come into the workplace. Work comes home. We need to grant each other grace and understand that and support each other.

I'd love to hear some sound strategies to address this question. I find that as I chase this dream, it's actually getting worse!

It’s been a battle for sure. Keep the mantra, “you are not your job.” Make a mindful, conscience effort for family, friends, hobbies, pets, etc. make a rule no checking phone except in emergencies. Stick to it. It’s all mental. No easy fixes!

Although the federal minimum wage has been $7.25 for years, 29 states and Washington, D.C., have higher rates, and many new wage hikes took effect this year. Some states also bumped their exempt salary cutoff. Here’s what employers need to know.
