‘I never thought in terms of being a leader. I thought very simply in terms of helping people’. Nobel Laureate and former SDLP Leader John Hume passed away last night. We all live in the Ireland he imagined - at peace and free to decide our own destiny. Thank you, John.

  2. The Greensill scandal is another blatant example of abuse of privilege, power and cronyism in this Tory government. We need a proper inquiry into corruption and dodgy Tory dealings.

  4. Another shooting in Derry, another night of fear for the local residents. Acts of barbarism like this only drag us backwards. The community doesn’t want guns on the streets or those who are wielding them. These people need to get off our backs and go away for good.

Terrifying scenes on our railway line. Thankfully the driver, crew and passengers are all safe. Unbearable to think what might have happened. Those behind this need to stop. Enough is enough.

Welcome but long overdue. It's a disgrace that victims & survivors have lived with emotional, psychological and physical distress for years and were forced to go to court to demand a pension that all parties agree they should have. Thoughts with victims & survivors today.

Today should be a stark reminder of the progress we’ve made & the distance we've still to travel. Peace isn’t self-sustaining. It requires us all to work tirelessly at it, to reject the politics of division & to build a future together that allows our children to dream big again.

Incidents at North Queen Street and Tigers Bay tonight with further rioting. Those involved need to go home and leave the residents to live in peace, enough is enough. They don’t deserve this & anyone not from the area should also go home. For once, think of the residents.
