    Incidentally, Gorsuch had been scheduled to give a speech at the University of Wyoming today, but his visit was canceled due to COVID.

    Justices-in-public watch: 💥 Breyer continues book tour (including two nights ago). 💥 Barrett gave a speech Sunday . 💥 Thomas is slated to give the 2021 Tocqueville Lecture today (but, like Barrett's speech, there is apparently no livestream).

    After postponing the execution of John Ramirez last night, SCOTUS now says it will hear argument in Ramirez's case on Nov. 1. The question is whether Texas must allow Ramirez's pastor to pray out loud & lay hands on Ramirez in the death chamber. More here:

    BREAKING: The Supreme Court halts the execution of John Ramirez so that the court can fully consider Ramirez's request that Texas allow his pastor to audibly pray and lay hands on him during the execution. Before SCOTUS' intervention, the execution had been set for tonight.

    C-SPAN is pleased the Supreme Court will provide live audio for Oct-Dec. oral arguments. C-SPAN will continue to live-stream and archive each. The Court’s live audio throughout COVID pandemic leads to a more informed American citizenry. Still hope for video one day.

    5/ And finally, the argument in U.S. v. Vaello-Madero, a case about whether it's unconstitutional to exclude Puerto Rico from Supplemental Security Income (a federal safety-net program), has been scheduled for Nov. 9. Before today it had not yet been set for argument.

    4/ The argument in Thompson v. Clark, a case about the scope of the "favorable termination" rule (which limits the ability to sue police officers for violations of constitutional rights), has been moved from Nov. 1 to Oct. 12.

    The Supreme Court will return for in-person oral argument in October, November, and December. Access is limited to “essential Court personnel, counsel in the scheduled cases, and journalists with full-time press credentials issued by the Supreme Court.” Live audio will continue.

    JUST IN: The justices will return to the courtroom in October, hearing in-person oral arguments for the first time since the start of the pandemic. The courtroom, however, will be mostly empty.

    NEW: John Ramirez, a Texas death-row prisoner whose execution is tomorrow, has filed an emergency request at SCOTUS. He wants his pastor to audibly pray and physically touch him during the execution, but the state and two lower courts denied his request.
