Please don't jump on such a ridiculous bandwagon - you're better than that, I hope, and your English is, well, adequate at best.

Historical amnesia! Normal in masses instructed what to think. Didn't you know the degradation of locals by English teachers and people? Don't worry, by now HKers seem to have accepted it and even enjoy it. Reason why many British like it here, isn't it?

I get told my English is very good on a daily basis. Should I be offended?

From a stupid MONOLINGUAL Anglophone ? LOL.First, it is a barbarian language lacking many things. But in their ex colonies seems to work out very well those compliments;HK people still looking for accents and correct usage to humiliate their co-regionals. MASOCHISTS

Hurts mainly when you are immigrant descent living as part of an ethnic minority but still of native local language (French people do the same joke...). In other places, you can always make fun of everyone as you never know people's origins. Do you think Brits get HK en accent?

Relax, Charmaine, the compliment comes naturally when neither your first nor last name suggests any of your English upbringing. Maybe try this next time if it really irks you: "Well, you should hear my Mongolian!" or whatever rhymes better and start to see their astonishing face!
