Mars has a 24.6 hr day & an axis tilt of 25.2deg’s. This isn’t substaintially different than Earth, which is currently 24 hrs/23.5deg. Earth does have precession and will wobble in a range of 22.1-24.5 deg’s over a 26,000yr cycle. So I don’t believe an asteroid is the reason.

The prominent theory is the weak magnetosphere of Mars has allowed the changed particles in the solar wind to dissipate Mars atmosphere to a ratio aligned with the magnetic fields strength. There are many papers on this theory and it seems very plausible.
