Having a formal trade agreement fosters the normalizing of friendly commercial interactions. There is currently a fair amount of ill-will about the way American firms are treated in China and vice-versa, Chinese firms in the US. Hacking and electronic surveillance are rampant.

Baidu, alibaba, weibo, wechat, etc are all accessible in the west, without vpn, despite security concerns. Google, twitter, facebook, YouTube, etc are banned in China and vpn is needed. So who’s fairer?

Sure... but then China must play fair with companies from other countries. The hypocrisy in this article is astounding. Basically: "yeah, sure, China bans most Western internet enterprises - but doing anything against Chinese ones is totally unfair and just HYPOCRITICAL!!!"
