First of all we already know the primary drivers of risk in aviation: lack of pilot preparedness or awareness (often not any fault of their own) and unreliable airframes. Interesting that these aren’t mentioned once even in the wake of the MAX crisis

And as planes literally fall out of the sky in Iran simply because the embargo makes it impossible for them to get replacement parts, and as pilots in China refuse go arounds or divert hundreds of miles over water after ingesting landing gear into engines.

Even the Asiana accident cited pilot training as one of the causes. A lot has changed since 1960 (not including AA’s ENTIRE fleet). Safety standards, instruments, pilot training are all radically safer than they were at that time

I have to add that many countries literally just defer to the FAA for safety standards (which is how we had the MAX crisis to begin with) and also that your entire argument about AA would have been moot if they had kept the name “US Airways”

Some of the countries with the most lacking pilot training today probably didn’t even HAVE airlines at the time

So I agree that this is a blatant misuse of data and a radical departure from ANY scientific or well informed commentary on the state of aviation

As more folks take to the skies across the globe, I hope
