Isn't the 'Chinese model' of 'fighting poverty' nowadays basically, "Rather than *develop or help develop* poorer areas, let's designate a certain handful of areas to be super-urban, build a shit-ton of housing, encourage entrepreneurs to set up shop there and attract a bunch of
poor villagers to come with the 'promise' of 'good wages, benefits and working conditions', even if it's a lie"? ;) hm...
Basically... build up lots of urban areas and "kill" the poorer villages and rural areas. And then claim, because the urban areas are 'way less impoverished', by comparison, you've "ended poverty". heh
And... *now* they're gonna finally "tackle pollution", eh?
...I'll believe it when I see it! *Suddenly*, the Politburo and CCP "Give a shit" about what all of that smog and dangerous toxins in the air, water and land are doing to their own people? Hm...
And by "killing" so many rural, albeit very-poor, towns and villages, simply to 'attract more workers at more-urban areas, aren't they, in effect, sort of "killing off" their own 'history and cultural heritage'? Like... wouldn't the 'most natural Chinese' stuff be found in the
original villages which have existed for centuries, by and large, rather than a bunch of fairly-new big cities which, in the end, can perhaps 'only do so much' to "preserve our cultural heritage"?
hm...
Of course, the gov't having to devote resources to "make all or most of China wealthy" is, I guess, a lot harder long-term. So I can see why Xi and the like would want to reach for the low-hanging fruit
Also probably doesn't help that Xi and his cronies are setting up all kinds of *Chinese loans* to a shitload of *foreign nations for the #beltandroad
...money that could probably be put to good use at home for poor areas, too. Imagine what a slap in the face as a poor villager
whose town has been neglected for years in the wake of 'China's development', must be
