Exactly this - US consumers can get these handsets thru AliExpress, Amazon & eBay. I bought a Xiaomi Mi Max 3 - bigger screen, much bigger battery, 6GB RAM, Android 8.1, great dual-camera, 4G LTE. 99% functionality of iPhone X for under $300.

Apple's main selling points have always been innovation, quality, and durability of their products, but that all comes at a cost.

A more innovative smartphone at a fraction of the cost of an iPhone may only last a year, but when it comes to Chinese consumers, so what? They can buy an even more innovative one next year and still save money. Meanwhile, they are buying Chinese products.

I agree , Apple should have kept the SE version . Put a good chip in it and as the 8SE at a lower price. They would buy it for access to the secured eco system.
