Big supporter of shaking up the game! Look at the huge changes Dota makes, even League to some extent. Bring back the HERC?https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/fbxpjn/i_think_the_game_needs_a_bigger_shakeup_than_what/ …
I mean I just provided a source supporting my argument with some data. Of course basing it on the steamcharts data is limited and only Valve has the real numbers. I am just saying from the limited amount of data we have it seems to support shaking up the game.

The biggest patch (7.00) dropped the player number, the latest one dropped it as well. I'm not saying big patches are bad, I'm saying they're is no evidence showing they've a systemic impact.

Doing some more research on Patch 7.00 seems to show that the patch did reverse the downward trend Dota was going in a little - https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/5y8ltj/dota_2_is_not_losing_players_because_of_7/ … at least according to this post from around the time doesnt fully seem it gutted usercount.

Regardless I'll agree its not the strongest argument. But changing up the game does not seem to have huge adverse effects, and I do think Starcraft needs some change in the coming three years

I think focusing on other arguments (and I'm way more curious about the impact on audience) is a better idea. Gutted is an exaggeration on my side but it didn't change the trend, slowly downhill. Biggest player boost for both DotA & SC have by far been new modes (autochess/coop)
