the whole "make the game easier to cater to casuals" thing with all the UI changes and making enemy unit selection defaulted to off for new players. the attempt to remove macro mechanics in LotV beta. none of this shit worked or did anything to bring in casuals
In this discussion I don't care about viewers of the game or getting new wcs viewers. Just more players and increase playerbase. The small changes you mentioned don't directly get in new players.

Imagine the promotion of a new unit. Wow a new Spellcaster! Can't wait to try and see how it interacts with the game. Brings in a huge dynamic. Same with changes to Battlecruiser. The popularity of just having a big tier 3 unit being rushed or lots of nukes is insane

this same factor is being done with co-op commanders and the like. blizz has already stated that co-op has the largest player base. you get the same "wow!" factor with co-op without fucking over balance and the competitive scene.
