Workers at the Memorial & Palmetto store in Waycross, GA are starting the weekend off right by filing for a union election! Welcome to the movement!!!
Much like the American South, Unions were built on the backs of hard workers who demanded progress. Our decision to join in with our brave predecessors is not an attack or a demonization of you or this company. Our decision to unionize is driven by the very principles Starbucks prides in. That desire is to inspire and nurture the human spirit. One person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time.
Right now our spirits are not being nurtured.
We believe this company is, and has the ability to continue to be, the face of the modern coffee world. We believe this company has been in the past, and has the ability to be again, the leader in company/worker loyalty. We believe that Starbucks has proven and strives to be a pro-democracy, pro-equality, and pro-progress company. A human workplace. A third place where everyone's voice matters.
However, it is impossible for your baristas to uphold our passion for the human spirit in the current working conditions. We cannot fill our communities cups with hour cuts, wage theft, little to no job security, a hostile corporate environment, and burnt out baristas and shifts. With out whom the company will start to crumble. We are your partners. And as your partners:
We call on you Laxman, Howard, and Kevin. We call on our local level management. We call on Starbucks as a whole to uphold and enforce an equal and unbiased vote. A differing opinion and an open and vulnerable conversation is needed and demanded on everyone's side. Not just ours.

Ben & Jerry’s has a long and proud history of being a progressive and socially conscious company. Now that scoopers in Burlington, VT have come together to form a union, my strong hope is that the company will voluntarily recognize the union and negotiate a fair first contract.

Workers at the Monroe and HWY 111 Starbucks store are serving more than just Coachella fans this week — they’re serving solidarity! Welcome to the movement!!! 🎸🎹🎷
19 April, 2023
Dear Laxman,
We the partners at The Monroe and HWY 111 (Store #8709) have come to the decision to organize a union at our beloved store. We believe there is no true partnership without partners having a voice in our workplace. We are tired of getting our hours cut, working in unsafe conditions, and of the forced demotions/transfers of our most beloved partners. We are put to work in unsafe conditions and forced to remain fully open by upper management, yet we are brushed aside even as our manager fought for us. How are we supposed to inspire and nurture the human spirit, if we, the partners, are flooded by 3 inches of sewage for weeks? That is why we, the partners of Monroe and HWY 111 are unionizing.
It took us working in sewage to realize the need for a union. It took our hours being dramatically cut and our benefits being threatened for us to realize the need for a union. It took our district manager threatening our job security and forcefully transferring our most beloved partner by threatening a pay and hour cut if they did not transfer, for us to finally pursue a union.
Everyday we do our best to provide the Starbucks experience but again and again Starbucks shows us that we aren't partners but rather exploited workers. To cut supervisors and hours during our busiest time due to Coachella Fest, is a perfect example of the exploitation that upper management pursues. When asked why, we were told we "don't have enough money," yet we are building a new store at every corner? Yet in 2022 Starbucks reported record profits (21.933B, a 7.93% increase from last year for Starbucks.)

So happy these are finally public! We’ve been hard at work building our proposals and getting them ready to take public. Starbucks, we’ve been ready to negotiate, where you at?

Over the last year, Starbucks partners from across the country came together to create solutions to some of the biggest and most common issues we face in our stores. Today, we're ready to roll out some of our important economic proposals Thread 🧵 #StarbucksUnion #SBWU
Show this thread
A list of proposals that we, as Starbucks workers, are taking to the negotiations table for our contract. This includes

1. Right to Organize for non-union stores without interference
2. Strong Foundation of Rights, such as Just Cause employment
3. Health of Safety, including a robust reaction to sexual harassment
4. Wages and Pay - $20 starting wage with a fair way to calculate adjustments based on cost of living.
5. No Reductions in Wages, Benefits, or other working conditions unless negotiated
6. High Quality Healthcare and access to healthcare, fully payed by Starbucks
7. Guaranteed and Consistent Schedules
8. Expanded Leave of Absence an Paid Time Off
9. Immediate Access to Benefits Withheld From Union Stores

9. Immediate Access to Withheld Benefits It was ruled in August 2022 that Starbucks has illegally withheld benefits from union stores. We are looking to guarantee those benefits, including Credit Card tips, the new dress code, and inclusive apron sizes in our contract.

7. Guaranteed & Consistent Schedules This would create guaranteed hours and schedules for workers, and also revoke the mandatory minimum availability rule. This would also create a fair process to obtain more hours, and eliminate favoritism in scheduling.

4. Wages and Pay We are proposing a $20 starting wage for partners with fair raises every year instead of the unpredictable raises we currently receive. With this, we are also proposing that wages be adjusted fairly based on Cost of Living in higher COL areas.

3. Health and Safety This proposal will reinforce safer working conditions for everyone and create real solutions to issues such as sexual harassment, racial discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, etc. in the workplace from management, co-workers, and customers.

2. Strong Foundation of Rights These proposals will create a more secure job. Just Cause rights will prevent unfair termination processes, which we have seen an escalation of. A grievance procedure will also help fix major issues that aren't being addressed or resolved.

1. Right to Organize This gives workers at non-union locations the ability to organize without interference. While the NLRA protects this, Starbucks has made it clear they have no intention of following the law. Having this in a contract means mutually agreed upon protection.

Starbucks partners at the Wellesley & Belt store in Spokane, WA are filing for a union! Workers SPOKE(ane) loud and clear — they want a union!
Dear Laxman,
We the partners of Shade Starbucks (8681) stand in solidarity with Starbucks Workers United and are writing to inform you that we are filing to unionize. Starbucks is a company dedicated to creating a third place within the community, but that is not feasible when we as workers are undervalued and underappreciated.
Continuously, we are met with a lack of follow through and accountability from management. We are tired of being treated as expendable, replaceable, and frankly disrespected. The company cannot operate without workers. We are the face of Starbucks, and backbone. Our labor creates profit for the company. Instead of acting like our voices as partners are heard, we are going to stand united demanding to be heard.
Overall, the morale in our store has greatly diminished. Instead of partners feeling excited to come into work, the first emotion after clocking in is a longing to return home. We connect with customers, and create a third place that is essential in our community, we live our roles and the job we do. We Partners work together to foster a welcoming and enriching environment within our store, lately it seems that management is actively working to rid our store of all the positivity we create. The consistent lack of accountability and follow through from management hurts our efforts to be the best we can be. Really listening to us would ultimately lead to a more positive culture at our store. Corporate says they listen; but obviously they haven't heard us. We have used the chain of command and tools corporate has given us to no avail. As partners, we have had to battle intimidation, retaliation, and manipulation. Management clearly chooses favorites based on the day.
