    Participation is compulsory for every Australian resident present in the country as on 10 August, including temporary residents and international students. Non-participation in the census can lead to a penalty of up to $222 a day.

    Tonight's census will gather data from over 25 million people in Australia. The information is used to make decisions about health, transport, schools, infrastructure & other services. The Census is compulsory whether or not you are an Australian citizen.
