yeah in retrospect I took a communication strategy that wasn't going to work: trying to find common ground on the strategic side, rather than just saying that I agreed philosophically but disagreed strategically

100% I think independent of sacrifice, it can be correct to *acknowledge the other side's points even if you don't agree with them*. Also we definitely shouldn't shut everything down! There's a strategic question of small sacrifices vs risk of larger ones by not engaging.

There is an important distinction of time horizon here. Best that the gov doesn’t carpet bomb a nascent industry before it has the time it needs to advance tech to the point where much of this conversation is moot What concessions are acolytes prepared to make in the near term?

Let's start with this: "Hey regulators, we're open to a clear set of national crypto-focused regulations on financial intermediaries." That in itself is massive scope, and I can't fathom granting an inch into defi without observing success in that prerequisite.
