decentralization is hard to define--it can mean a lot of things and this doesn't capture the "value of network" effect that ETH and BTC have but in general I think the narratives around it have often missed the mark

That's what many don't get, Web3 is still evolving.. Decentralization is a spectrum. At moment, some blockchains still use Google bigtable, AWS, Google cloud and other centralized services. With time, when we have more decentralized infrastructures? Things will change.
