1) This article says, basically, "yeah media sucks but they don't quite *lie*. They mislead and are biased but you can still usually trust them when they make totally perfectly 100% factual statements."

4) And I think that, pretty quickly, people catch on to this--to the players that just flat out lie.
And, generally, it doesn't end up well for them. It breaks sacred rules of conduct, rules everyone knows to follow, and makes it very difficult to interface with them.
