1) Ok, why do announcers keep quoting rushing yard leaders?
Sure, if your team runs more than average, you'll have lots of rushing yards, but it seems pretty clear to me that yards/carry matters more than raw yards, right?
Or, really carry-yards above average.

It depends on the goal.
In this case the goal is literally for the fan at home to hear who has run the ball the furthest.

And I feel like most alternative goals you can come up with don't do much better.
ELO differentials between elite vs great vs good running backs are probably some of the lowest in any position in sports and RB performance is much more correlated with OL skill than RB skill.

So comparing RB performance on good teams to RB performance on bad teams in a way a 90 IQ guy drunk on a Sunday will understand is pretty pointless if wanting to retain viewers.
