1) Ok, why do announcers keep quoting rushing yard leaders?
Sure, if your team runs more than average, you'll have lots of rushing yards, but it seems pretty clear to me that yards/carry matters more than raw yards, right?
Or, really carry-yards above average.

Average rush yards can be misleading. Some one could run 10 times in a game for 60 yards or 6 per carry, but if 58 of them come on a single rush that’s not an efficient day. The best teams establish a run, then pass off it. Holds the defense close to the line of scrimmage.

yeah agreed, the real best metric is none of the above but instead some variant that also respects % of 1st downs drives get
It would help to have average and total yards. But total yards by itself still shows how much the player is used in the offense.
