The Ravens didn't run the ball to keep the ball out of Mahomes hand. They ran the ball because they are the best team at running the ball with the best running QB of all time. This thread lacks so much nuance. The strength of a teams offense dictates the strat.

7) Lamar's rusing didn't beat Mahomes because he kept the ball out of his hands. He won because he's fucking fast. Lamar Jackson out-rushed the entire Chiefs team, and he's a QB. That's either a great sign for him, or a terrible sign for their RBs. Or, in this case, both.

Commentators have been about 10 years behind football strategy for awhile. Tony Romo is an exception, and is excellent. The reason? He retired recently. Most of the other guys (usually color commentators) played in a different era, pre-analytics, pre-intricate offenses, etc.

Keeping the ball out of Mahomes hand is just a bonus. The commentators might have said that but they clearly acknowledged how good Lamar and the Ravens are on the ground, many many times.

I stopped reading after point 3, you cannot make a reasonable argument that more possessions is “roughly the same” for both teams, KC v NYJ 100 times, you honestly think more possessions won’t significantly hurt NYJ’s chances
