To be clear here: twitter.com/SquawkCNBC/sta 1) There are lots of advantages to PoW. Its security is less reliant on historical ordering than PoS, it's in some cases harder to quickly buy scale to attack, harder to hedge attacks, etc.

But why is it bad that it uses a lot of energy? Counting the number of kWh something uses, by itself, is not an argument for or against anything. You have to measure that number against the benefit it provides to civilization. Air conditioning uses a lot of energy. Is that bad?
