One thing to note: there *is* a futures regime in the US under the CFTC. It's very different from how most crypto exchanges work, but it's there. I probably haven't been clear enough about that FWIW.

*everything is technically a commodity according to CFTC save box office receipts & onions...hence futures on those technically go to CFTC, except when SEC comes and cherry picks what they want for their purview. That's basically the regime

I’m surprised you didn’t say that the SEC likely sees crypto as challenging the hegemony of the United States, but that it can be use to strengthen it. USA can embrace this tech sooner and be a leader for the new financial revolution, would require an Innovator’s Dilemma mindset
