FWIW I think there is a real distinction here, and there is value in having both liquid token investors and long-term-locked investors
Having a diverse and value added cap table is healthy for the project. Everyone contributes differently.

Why? Why is the assumption that an investor will sell unless they are locked up? How about "We assume they will buy and keep buying because the project is awesome and growing." The lockup actually incentivizes selling when the lockup ends.
