I don't talk in much detail about JS (partially not sure how much they'd actually want me to share!) but in many ways it was an outlier's outlier; graphing my friends' job satisfaction mostly just looks like a blob on the right for JS and a blob on the left for everywhere else.

OCaml / Haskell shop, yeah? One of the only big companies I ever considered applying to as an SWE. That ship has sailed now but happy to hear JS is a cool place to work.

JS was the only firm I wanted to work for when I graduated but I honestly wasn’t a good canidate. The left side bell curve in me was a better fit for crypto lol

Tbf I think there’s at least a teeny bit of survivorship bias here, my experience interning there was that it’s the kind of job you can only really succeed in long-term if you genuinely love the work. Hard to just “coast” if you hate the pressure etc.

For what it's worth, the one time I applied to JaneStreet for a job, I had literally the most encouraging reply from HR even if there wasn't a position for me... so thumbsup++ on that alone given recruitment process is cancer

To what extent have you modeled Alameda after JS? What's similar/different managerially or culturally or in any other way? Also, I hear JS now has a crypto team. Have you run into them?
