I used to think this!
I don't anymore.
I now think that the majority of the value is in the individual pieces instead of the bridges.
(But I could be wrong!)

btw my play for a multi-chain future isnt to bet on specific chains
but it is to bet on a cross chain bridge
in the most pessimistic scenario, you'd expect BTC and ETH + ERC20s
realistically there would also be privacy coins + the other economically significant chain
