fair!
how would you feel about a wager?
binary on whether, in 12 months, a Solana app that can handle twitter-like load will exist (just counting text-based tweets, nothing else). Also totally fair if you object to those conditions!
Also max tweets/s seems to be about 150k.

This isn’t about “pride”, no one (least of all me) attacked Solana — or said Twitter was worth copying as-is. What’s the finalized TPS under load, aka attack? Can anyone place a lower bound?

For something like Twitter, I would imagine the network would act more like a dns. It only needs to store the head pointer to the IPFS/arweave content. Writes that only touch 1 account are simulated on break.solana.com.

Easier for Solana, but now I have questions about (picking one) ARWeave. Hard to prove future availability. Bigger picture, is right: no society leaves deviance undefined or fails to punish it; violative content, however defined, means nonrepudiation is a hard problem.

Decentralized Twitter will happen as soon as we have 100m people who self custody keys. Scaling reads/writes/cdn is the easy part.

Regulators now want to KYC self-custody, right? Please don’t keep adding harder and harder conditions to this little thought experiment :-P.

In weeds now. Idea was L1 blockchain text only Twitter. What is lower bound on final TPS? If too low, can’t compete with Twitter as stated (amortizing by batching and storing elsewhere, etc., not so censorship-resistant).
We can talk about other topics if better use of time ;-).

FWIW I mostly agree with this!
I also think that *probably* it will have enough capacity for it -- but definitely can't prove it now.
So we'll build it, and see how Solana handles it.
Centralized-aggregator social is a trap. If you build it and get big enough, the censorship will come.

I’m already on the tweet you linked!
See below for better way. I think centralized-by-aggregator social is a trap, full of spies and lies. What we need are protocols for social, so you can own your posts and follow links. Clients do the rest unless servers allowed by law/deals. twitter.com/BrendanEich/st…

Truth of the matter is, most humans would rather have someone else take responsibility for their actions. It's at the core of why ANY central authority exists.
