This doesn't sound like it's taking into account the new rollup-centric Ethereum model. I would expect a Facebook-type application to be on a rollup which will be plenty fast and have all the security guarantees of base Ethereum.

Many rollups are not, in fact, plenty fast for Facebook--most don't have nearly enough capacity.
And many also sacrifice security and decentralization.
I'm specifically thinking of zk-snarks (1-of-n trust assumption and you can run your own verifier) and this graph
