At approximately 1:46pm UTC on Dec. 4th, 2020, the Solana Mainnet Beta cluster stopped producing blocks at slot 53,180,900. The Solana team is actively working with validators to restart the network. No funds are at risk.

Their post stated they needed 80% of stake weight to restart the network. Looking at solanabeach.io that looks like over 215 validators. The fact they got this done in under 6 hours is pretty impressive. If you look at the timeline, the long tail was what took a while.

The 5 hours really sucked! It was also a representation of the fact that Solana really does require a distributed consensus. As was the fact that the network halted in the first place when it couldn't get consensus.
