Not a clear different in terms of liquidations.
Pros of spot margin: any coins against any other coins; and you get deliverable coins, so you can withdraw them/sell spot/etc.
Pros of perps: half the positions get paid funding, whereas for borrowing everyone pays interest

Though you can also lend out assets to people who are borrowing spot, so either way it's interest payments from users to other users
