In an interview with Sam back in March, he told me that effective altruism (EF) was "the central reason that [he] founded FTX, to find a way to donate as much as [he] can."

I would like to be a more effective altruist, but I get analysis paralysis and rarely give money until the cashier asks me to donate to sick children or something.
Where do you donate, and how do make those decisions?
Good place to chart: https://givewell.org/charities/top-charities…
Also encourage finding 1-3 causes that are personal + lesser-known (high impact). For ex, mine is support for urban HS debate programs.
+1 to these.
You can also choose something that offsets your own externalities. I eat quite a lot of meat, but know that factory farming is torture, so I give mostly to animal welfare charities.
yup!
One thing I'd say: _definitely_ don't feel discouraged at all from giving more.
But also don't feel compelled to do more than 10% unless it feels _right_ to you.
