3) They tend to follow patterns. One type (X) is.... a huge sinkhole. Partially it's that they never actually produce much. But also, they take a ton of our time.

4) It's not that they'll ask questions -- that's great! -- but that they'll be helpless. For thing after thing after thing, they won't be able to progress without us rolling things out: even when we're sure it's not necessary. It takes huge amounts of our energy.

5) The other type (Y) is.... kind of magical. They'll say they're doing something. They'll pepper us with clarifications over the next week. A week later, they'll ask us for some small feature and we'll be like "here we go again"...

6) so we'll role out that feature. And then the next day they'll send us a link to a beta version of their product. It's always shocking to see.

7) This is a pretty consistent property of type Y teams: a) they have ideas of what to do b) they ask lots of clarification questions c) they ask for small features when necessary d) mostly they work around roadblocks on their own e) they actually release features. Fast.
