FWIW I think faster AMMs are less bad (less uncertainty in fills --> less slippage --> trades are closer to fair --> less IL), and AMMs are in fact a thing some people want!
But yeah mostly I think that bonfida.com/dex is way more powerful than the AMMs.

I agree lower latency makes AMM much better. So does lower network fees!
I think maintaining very high degrees of decentralization/security is also super important which is what makes the first part difficult (albeit not impossible)

Yup, agreed. I guess I think that the decentralization/security tradeoffs from it aren't huge -- they're not nothing but realistically anyone running a node on any major blockchain could run one on a fast chain e.g. Solana.
But it does mean that e.g. cellphones can't.
And it also does mean that you have to decide at what point a transaction is finalized enough that you're not worried about a double-spend.
This is a larger issue for PoW than PoS systems but if the transaction notional is high enough it's a worry in both.

A 5g iPhone has enough compute ram and bandwidth (over 1gbps!!!) to run a solana validator. Happy to sponsor a qualcomm snapdragon port of
I worked on the dsp and I bet that thing can crank out 1m ed25519 signatures per second :).

Speechless! So, I can run my SOL node in my village where I have no fiber or Lan.
