A constant tension watching NFL games:
Commentator: 'you know, there's really strong evidence that running backs don't matter'
Commentator, 2 minutes later: 'their running back is out for the season, and I really can't overstate how big of a blow that is.'
Conversation
There is a supply/demand issue that RB's face which is there are too many good ones, and they lose productivity quickly because of wear and tear, so it is hard to get paid. So usually a smart commentator will say, "Running back very important, do not pay them, draft new ones."

yeah but even when you *have* a currently good one, and they miss time, the backup tends to do just about as well.
very different than for e.g. QBs
Agreed. Le'veon bell($14 mil in 2018, absolutely amazing talent) at the Steelers was replaced by James Conner($500,000 in 2018).
Good offensive line solves all doesn't it.
I have finally accepted I like football and find it interesting. haha
