For me this is a red flag. "I give to charities, I am actually a good guy". Not saying sbf is doing anything wrong, but I don't see the "charities" argument as a good one.
Not making an argument or defending anyone, just pointing out something I've heard a lot. I wouldn't spend too much time beating straw men if I were you.
Why do you see it as a red flag though? Don't think I've ever seen them actively go around beating their chests about this
Rich people giving to charities is often virtue signalling for public image. Often those giving the most have controversial aspects to them and try to over-compensate. Ofc, they are never stupid enough to brag about it, they leave clues for others to do so for them.
I know some biz owners (friends) who made their controversial businesses give to charities to help the biz look less controversial to help them get approved in some places. (Sbf also explained he called his company "research" to look more serious as their arbi appeared sketchy)
