But seriously, I think it's long-term good: it increases the liquidity of the coin, which helps it gain trust and stability.

I think so too.
If a coin has been surging, obviously enabling selling pressure could be bearish short term.
But long term it's good for the liquidity of KNC.
While I don't own KNC (yet), I am incredibly bullish on as a money lego.

do cash settled futures facilitate manipulation in your opinion?

In general I think there isn't a huge difference between cash and physically settled futures as long as their OI isn't massive compared to the market.
