If hashrate rises you make less btc => be long hashrate.
Also short btc to hedge its usd value

Of course it works. But first you will need to take the partially derivative of mining revenue w.r.t bitcoin price, and w.r.t hashrate, in order to structure a delta-one hedge.

Yup--not too hard for a trading firm, but fairly involved for most mining firms
