Would you trade hashrate futures?

Go for difficulty futures, hashrate doesn't make sense. What will be the actual "spot" hashrate? We would see huge spikes caused by the poisson distribution that is not related to difficulty changes/numbers of machine on.

Oh yeah I'm just saying hashrate because that's what people recognize--the actual design will probably settle to 1/difficulty
