They estimate your direction based on changes in leaderboard XBT gains. I think it defaults to short if there isn't any movement and the market's trending down (and vice-versa)

ahhh that makes sense.
those are old accounts of Alameda's that haven't been used much in a while so they'll always have no movement :P
