You might even grow as a decent person! Because I guarantee you that if your response to a writer of color calling your work racist is to threaten legal action and try to have them kicked out, you are in fact racist!

People screw up. It's completely okay to own that and work to do better in the future. We should be normalizing that. We as white people should be normalizing recognizing our own biases and privilege and doing to work to combat issues in our communities, families, and industries.

Recognizing these things doesn't make you a bad person. Weaponizing and prioritizing your discomfort to launch destructive cruel, legal battles at POC for hurting your feelings *does* make you a bad person!

honestly, often the best course is to say nothing at all/ignore it. But freaking out is exactly the wrong thing to do. You aren't required to respond to every criticism, whether you think it justified or not.
