@Ryanair Hi! Just checked in for two people simultaneously and our seats have been assigned apart from each other. We have to pay more to sit together. Seems like it'd be easy to implement a feature that assigns adjacent seats for multiple checkins. Why the extra expense?
Hi, if we assigned them together the system would not be random. Free seating is random. If you pay for seating you can pick your seats. DL

Again, I understand that. But you can randomly allocate A GROUP to be together at a randomly chosen spot on the plane, rather than each individual. It would bear you no extra cost. People checking in as a group will most likely want to sit together, why charge them for that?

We charge for preferred seating. The free seating is for those that don't mind where they sit. DL
