Can anyone explain to me why the Nashville Statement says chastity is only required outside of marriage, not inside as well?

For people who don't understand what chastity is, or what it requires, let Elizabeth Anscombe help you: http://www.orthodoxytoday.org/articles/AnscombeChastity.php …
-
Let me add: I support the broader aims of the Nashville statement and the people who drafted it and signed it.
-
But a missed opportunity: To explain that chastity is the virtue that should govern *all* of our sexual lives & it makes demands on *all*
-
For example: when a married couple consumes pornography together they are violating chastity, even if they aren't cheating on each other.
-
Nashville mentions transgender and homosexual conduct by name. Never mentions porn by name. Missed opportunity. Chastity requires more.

Someone just shared this site with me. If you're curious as to what chastity actually is, this is for you: http://chastity.com/what-is-chastity …

Sed contra, the Church will not be able to effectively respond on SOGI if it cant articulate full vision of chastityhttp://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/criticism-nashville-statement-sogi-lgbt-christianity/ …

Maybe they are purposefully limiting the scope of their defended positions. Big tent of views on sexual ethics, finding points of agreement.

@mattleeanderson raised *exactly* this point in his response:https://mereorthodoxy.com/nashville-statement/ … -
(also your fear is almost certainly correct on both counts)

@RyanTAnd It's surprising how modernist Muslims are doing the same thing. Abandon traditional reasoning because of a inferiority complex.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

These are not just Evangelicals but also respected leaders of the Reformed faith.

In modern parlance, "chastity" ≈ "celebacy". No one uses it today to mean fidelity within marriage.

This is actually one area, as a former catholic & current evangelical, where I agree with RCs more than my own church.
-
That's broad, though. Some evangelical denominations do share the same view of chastity.

Why are you pretending to be surprised? You know this isn't a shared view among RCs & Evangelicals.

It's a general lack of understanding of what virtues are, what they mean, how they make us happy, etc.

Growing up Evangelical, I never heard marital fidelity described as chastity. Purity was a much more common way to talk about it.

Evangelicals believe chastity is part of the covenant of marriage. Not explaining every detail about marriage is not a slipup.
