My fundamental issue with being on call is that I care more about my personal life & health than I do about whether my employer’s website is operational.
I assume everyone does! So...why do we put up with on-call at all?
Maybe there’s something to this labor solidarity thing

The problem with being on call, is you aren’t relaxing. You are spending time making sure you can take the call, even if none comes, repeatedly and nervously checking your phone.

Disclaimer: I’ve never been first-level on call, but why the stress? Stay where you know there is good cellphone reception (most cities) and keep your phone charged, and forget about it?
