My fundamental issue with being on call is that I care more about my personal life & health than I do about whether my employer’s website is operational.
I assume everyone does! So...why do we put up with on-call at all?
Maybe there’s something to this labor solidarity thing

I'm in a labor union,
@hpaeaft, but we've not succesfully been able to negotiate something with the University. Thankfully, we did not have on-call in my department, and they decided to entice us into it by offering a full comp day off for taking even an uneventful on call shift.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
I think that they were aware that if they tried to just tell us that we were on call now, not a one of us would have agreed to do it, but I thank them for starting from a sensible place. We don't have minimum call outs, and they keep trying to push answering non-emergency e-mail.

But it's a good place to be starting from compared to most people.
