Police unions like the Fraternal Order of Police are the head of the snake - as long as they have power (which they maintain by bankrolling politicians on both sides) no lasting police reform can stand.https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2020/08/03/how-police-unions-fight-reform …

We have to change the power dynamics here if we want reform. We
@chesaboudin@GeorgeGascon@sjcda_media@ContraCostaDA are pursuing the CA bar to prohibit prosecutors from taking police union money. Next hearing is Aug 11.#CureTheConflict http://board.calbar.ca.gov/Agenda.aspx?id=15707&t=0&s=false …2 replies 4 retweets 10 likes -

Wondering if there is a similar effort underway to bar prosecutor candidates / DAs from accepting campaign contributions from defense attorneys? Support rejecting all big $$$ IE support, regardless of source? Where do you think the State Bar / Supreme Court should draw the line?

To me the police and prosecution have a relation unique from all others and therefore requires the greatest scrutiny and restriction.

Do you think it’s appropriate for an elected DA to solicit or accept contributions from his or her employees? What about the public defenders office with whom he or she has a majority of cases?

No need to reply,
@CristineDeBerry . I know that you and@GeorgeGascon are comfortable doing the former (below), even in an office without civil service protections & despite violating ethics guidelines. Plus, he took money from the PD’s office as a candidate for DA in SF. /11 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
