Smalltalk-80 is 40 years old. Java is 25 years old. I've been coding in Java w/ Smalltalk patterns for 16 years. Thousands of devs have been using the past 8 years. In OSS, developers drive. We make Java better. Put your seatbelts on.

We (well mostly ) migrated the build to Grade and I must say the team have been tremendously helpful and supportive. Gradle Enterprise is also a really really nice product.

If you build a library, you *must* read this. It's time to stop working around the limitations of the POM format. I really wish folks realize that. Time to move on!

Java's 6 months release cadence is 1. Very good, is exciting to see Java moving fast 2. Good in theory, useless in practice. Pro users are on Java 11 at best, all libraries has to support Java 8 at least 3. Harmful for enterprises 4. Just a desperate attempt to monetize Java

Functional programming is not esoteric, theoretical, academic, obtuse, inefficient, or inaccessible. It is simple, obvious, approachable, and elegant. Embrace it as part of your regular programming toolkit. Combine it with OO and structure. Language is secondary.

A clear symptom that your software is overengineered is that writing a simple test requires 200 lines of mocks and 3 lines of logic. And then you're unsure if your test actually verified anything or just injected the result. If your unit tests look like this take a step back.
