TODAY: Dems are reintroducing a bill to guarantee the right to travel across state lines for an abortion. No state has yet attempted to prosecute someone for helping another person travel for the procedure but a couple states have explored doing so.

Though ad platforms and data aggregators are not the focus here, the FTC could follow up to make sure that these companies are not inadvertently in possession of data that was collected in ways that violated the HBNR

If the court agrees with this order, GoodRx is going to have to stop sharing personal health data with Google, Facebook, etc. for advertising purposes and make sure that third parties delete data it's previously shared, which is also a big deal.

The rule was put into place back in 2009 in a stimulus bill and has never been used. But the commission has been signaling via public statements that it is going to interpret the rule this way.

2) it's the first time the commission has used the health breach data notification rule, which was designed to account for health data not covered by HIPAA or otherwise under the purview of HHS.

it's a big deal for a few reasons: 1) the way GoodRx was sharing data with advertisers—to target ads to consumers— is a widely held practice.

NEW with : Biden admin is moving to expand coverage for workers with employers who oppose birth control. One part of the policy says bosses can only claim a religious exemption to the coverage mandate, not a "moral" one

A consolidated lawsuit that's getting filed next month is putting this idea to the test, suggesting that algorithms are causing mental health issues, using some of Frances Haugen's disclosures.

Unlike content, algorithms and targeting technology are not necessarily protected. Next month, the Supreme Court will start mulling this question when it hears arguments for Gonzalez v Google. So we may get an answer on that.

Regulators at this point have held many hearings on the many harms associated with social platforms. But the trouble has been section 230, which prevents these companies from getting sued for user posted content. Lawmakers also want to avoid limiting free speech.

"More than three dozen states have extended or made permanent policies permitting cocktails to go and alcohol delivery." Yes. And perhaps worth adding that alcohol deaths increased to 38% above prepandemic levels in 2021 from 26% above in 2020.
