Wondering when the governors of Texas and Mississippi are planning to lift seat belt laws and speed limits. Also stop signs, school vaccination requirements, etc. Neanderthal is too kind a term for this irresponsible move.

Listening to Chuck Grassley congratulate himself for the way he and the Republicans treated Merrick Garland while Garland has to sit patiently and listen makes me want to throw things across the room.

from : confirm Neera Tanden. Surprised? Hugh believes presidents should get deference in how to staff their administrations--even Democratic presidents.

I'm listening to stories of Texans freezing in their homes, and taking in the reality that 500,000 Americans have died from covid, and trying to grasp that this happened--that we allowed this to happen--here. An American tragedy.

If Ted Cruz wanted to be a "good dad" and take care of his family, maybe not have them risk infection by taking an unnecessary trip?

Not to pile on, or anything, but on Cruz: huh? He needed to be a “good dad” by flying with them but is leaving them unsupervised in Cancun? Or with someone else so he didn’t need to be with them at all. Makes little sense.

I don’t think we’ve talked enough about the possibilities of civil litigation against Trump by those injured in the insurrection, and the accompanying potential for discovery.

A measure of low expectations but 57 votes to convict is higher than I expected.

And by the way the risk to D’s seems quite low to me. As it stands now they lose, Trump is acquitted. More Info can only work in their favor—especially since every reason to think the info will be damning to Trump. And more info in public interest as well.

After that, trial can resume with that deposition testimony. Then senators can vote. What terrible harm ensues from that?

Okay, trials have recesses. No big deal. Now that they’ve crossed the witness Rubicon, and there is an indentifiable set of relevant people to call, have both sides identify reasonable number of individuals, maybe three on each side, and take depos. (Not in Phillydelphia.)

This is bad news. But the silver lining is that McConnell isn't saying that Trump is innocent on the merits, and is resting his vote solely on a supposed lack of jurisdiction.

Raskin: "Man you should have been here on January 6." To repulsive Trump lawyer who said this (now) was his worst day in Washington.
